Loads of Lego

I'm having trouble sleeping at the moment so I've been up since silly o'clock! Hence the early post...

I've made lego cards before (here) so this was the first theme that came to mind when I needed to make a 9th birthday card for a friend's Son. The actual lego pieces are fairly simple to create - various squares and oblongs with punched paper circles mounted on top using foam fads. The hard part is to arrange the pieces so that the same coloured blocks aren't touching!

The result - a very bright card for a young lad.

Flowers For Nanna On Mothers Day

Here's the first of this year's Mother's Day cards. I've been asked to make a few for work so I'd better start early...

I've used one of the fab Mother's Day Flowers images from Digistamp Boutique, octagon dies and scallops and the pink background is embossed with a butterfly embossing folder that came free with a magazine. The image has been coloured with pro markers and I've decoupaged a couple of the flowers and the vas to add more depth.

Totally Gorjuss

After trying a sketch challenge yesterday (sketches aren't really my thing) I thought I'd stay outside my comfort zone and try another today!

The sketch at Sketch Saturday caught my eye. I think I get put off by odd bits on sketches but this one set my creative juices flowing immediately.

 I decided to use some of the Gorjuss decoupage kit and paper pack I bought over Christmas at the Range. We've just had a new store opened in Sunderland and it's became my new favourite place. I love the dark hues used in the patterned papers and the gothic feel to the images - I just wish they had full faces rather than just the eyes.

Happy Bird-day

Today's challenge at Less Is More is a sketch:



I'm not the greatest with sketches so I've followed it literally. I used some Doodlebug Kraft patterned paper and a wooden bird embellishment I got from The Works. I'm not sure about the sentiment - it looks like the style of The Alley Way Stamps.

Welcome To The World

I must start today by praising the quick service from Lily Of The Valley - I ordered a set of 4 pre-coloured Art Pads on Sunday evening and they arrived yesterday morning (free postage aswell)! One of the pads was new born baby images and it seemed the perfect opportunity to use my new goodies to make an order for a new baby Nephew card for a friend at work whose sister-in-law is in labour as we speak!

What a gorgeous image! I've used co-ordinating blue papers from a very old pack of Papermania's Spots and Stripes Festive Capsule collection and the beige checked paper is from a cheap pad of pastel papers I acquired from The Works (they have 8x8 paper pads for £2). I've matted the papers on kraft paper and added computer generated greetings and a cute wooden heart (table decorations from a wedding I went to last year. The bride gave me them for my cards as they were going to be thrown away - the horror!)

With Sympathy

Today's card is sad but necessary. I needed a quick sympathy card for a friend who has had a death in the family and decided to use the marvellous feather die that came free with last month's Simply Cards and Papercraft magazine. I'm not sure why I associate feathers with death but the two go together in my head.

I've used a black base card and computer printed the greeting onto some textured card. I die cut two feathers from the same textured card and inked the edges using a black ink pad. Due to the background I have used in the photo they seem to have taken on a slightly purple hue. The feathers are mounted onto the card using different thicknesses of foam pad.

As I said, not the happiest of cards but just a token to let my friend know I am thinking of her.

Special Friend

Where has the last week gone? I've been making cards but struggled to get photos because of the light as I'm at work during the day. I really need some sort of daylight bulb to get decent photos during the Winter months!

Today's card is for the challenge at Less Is More. The theme this week is 'Friends' which is the perfect opportunity to use my favourite Birdie Brown image.

 My inspiration for the colour scheme came from the gorgeous colours of the current challenge at a new challenge blog I have found - ShowCASe Your Style...

Sweet Baby Girl

I've had a very successful day so far. I've been to a Ross Papercraft Show at Nissan this morning and come away with lots of new goodies to play with. Then I've managed to do this quick one layer card and got a decent photo of it while it's still light on a very dark and dreary day here in the North East.

 There's lots of pregnancies at the moment amongst friends so I'm sure a new baby girl card will come in useful at some point!

I've had this cute digi for years - the file is called 'Rusty Pickles Shoes' so I'm presuming Rusty Pickles was the creator!

I've changed the colour of the digi to a mid grey shade and printed it onto a linen embossed base card. I've coloured it with the palest pink promarker I possess (blossom) and added a greeting in Freehand 951 BT font and a couple of pale pink gems.

Golden Anniversary

Welcome to 2015! Hope you have had a lovely Christmas and New Year!

I'm back in the craft room today after the Festive break and needed to make a quick Golden Anniversary card for a relative...

I used a cream linen card for the base. The letters and leaves are die cut using a dull gold paper.  The flowers are punched and shaped with an embossing tool and mounted using a piece of foam. There's something about this that reminds me of a Greek wreath crown.

Celebrate the Season

Today's card really is the last one! It's a quick card I made this afternoon to go with a friend's Christmas pressie.

I've used a very girly mini diva Christmas image from Pink Petticoat - coloured with pro markers and highlighted with silver gel pen. The image is mounted with foam pads on a dark red card base and I've made the bow using sheer dark red ribbon and gold thread and attached it with wire.

One Layer Robin

I love one layer cards - they are so quick and easy to make! As usual I've used a Digistamp Boutique image - it really is the place to find the cutest digis.

Instead of my usual colouring medium (pro markers) I've used watercolour pencils. I've added a touch of glitter on the hat and boots and a pom pom.

A Snowman For Nanna

Today's card was made using an old digi from The Digistamp Boutique - the Santa frame from the Christmas Frames set.

It's for a child to give to their grand parent therefore the naive childlike feel to this digi is perfect. I've used a large 7 x 7 scalloped base therefor the digi is quite huge. I've coloured it using pro markers and matted it using some holly patterned paper. The nose, hat and scarf have been decoupaged to add some depth.

Golden Baubles

I've nearly finished my Christmas cards now - only another 10 or so to make. Today's card took no time to make! I've used some bauble peel-offs I've had for years - they actually look really good against the cream linen base card.

I've used some dull gold card for the matting and added a bow (part of a Memory Box die) and a gold peel-off heart on the middle bauble. Very simple to make but the shiny baubles look lovely in the light.

Kraft and Blue Christmas

Today's card is for a 4 year old boy so the perfect image to use is the pre-coloured 'Winter Philip' - a cute digi I acquired some time ago from Pink Gem. I've mixed a scalloped Kraft base with pale blue spotted and dotty papers from Papermania's Spots and Stripes Festive collection.

I've distressed the edge of the patterned paper and added glitter (always difficult to photograph). I've also added some snowflakes and a pom pom on his hat. The wording is peel-offs coloured with a dark grey pro marker on punched matted circles.

Joyful Hearts

It's a freezing cold day here in the North East of England - no sign of snow but Winter woollies are very much needed.

Today's card is for the niece of a work colleague - the request was for something pink and girly! I've used some die-cut toppers from NitWits Joyful Hearts range - perfectly pink.

I've created the 'snow' using some fake decorative snow I bought from the Pound Shop - it looks and feels very similar to 'Flower Soft' and in the right light has a bit of a twinkle. The background is some pink and white spotty paper from my stash.

Cream and Gold with a Touch of Red Bling!

Today's card was a very quick one! I bought some foiled and die cut Christmas images at a recent craft fair - very useful for last minute cards. I'm not sure who makes them as there's no brand to be seen. I've mounted the image onto some Swiss dot embossed cream matting and added some red gems for a bit of sparkle.

Now this card annoys me for two reasons; firstly the person who requested it wanted 'Nana' spelt in this way - I have always spelt it 'Nanna'. Secondly, the Christmas tree has been printed not quite centre - this is absolutely killing me!

Pink Petticoat Presents

I'm still loving the cute Christmas digis I bought from Pink Petticoat some years ago - today's card is made with the present digis...

The image has been coloured with pro markers and I've again added red gems for the holly berries. I've reached the point in my Christmas card making where I'm struggling to think of new layouts so everything I'm doing looks a bit basic! Still, I do prefer the modern clean and simple look.

Hope Your Christmas Sparkles

I needed to make some quick girly cards for my female friends and this cute bauble digi from Pink Petticoat is the perfect image. This is the pink version but I've also made some in lilac, pale blue and red.

The images are coloured using promarkers with areas of white glitter (which is always difficult to photograph!) and red gems for the holly berries. Each card only took about 15 minutes to make which is ideal when you have to do a large batch.

Snowman With Stripes

I wasn't in the mood for stamping or colouring today so I've used one of a set of vintage looking images I found in my local craft shop as a ready made topper. I'm not sure of the make but they do have a lovely rustic Christmas feel...

I've mounted the image on some Swiss dot embossed cream card and added patterned paper and burgundy ribbon from my stash. To add a bit of bling I've used some tiny square shaped black tiles as buttons. The greeting is computer generated.

With Love At Christmas

With only five and a half weeks until the big day the Christmas cards are coming along nicely. Today's card was made using a wonderful free digi from Alley Way Stamps - lovely to colour and easy to cut.

I've used my favourite heavy linen card for the base and coloured the image with promarkers. There is a heart on the middle tree anyway but I've added a heart button for extra cuteness.
